This skilled position operates heavy equipment in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various municipal systems and related infrastructure. Performs work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, standards of quality and safety. Reports to a designated Field Supervisor.
- Operates a backhoe, loader, grader, cement mixer, grinder, bulldozer, etc., in the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal systems and related infrastructure.
- Utilizes various hand, power, and concrete tools. Exercises care and safety in the use and maintenance of required tools and equipment.
- Inspects equipment for proper operation; performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair work on equipment as necessary.
- Assists other division personnel with various manual labor tasks as assigned.
- Performs work in compliance with policies and procedures, specifications, schedules, and standards of quality and safety.
- Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints from customers.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including vehicle maintenance reports, work orders, blueprints, daily reports, location sheets, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and 3 years of experience in construction and/or equipment operation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must possess a valid Florida Class "A" CDL license.
- If assigned to the Utilities Department, must possess a valid Florida Level 3 Water Distribution license.
- Must complete OSHA confined space trench/shoring training within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices of operating heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of underground infrastructure and related systems.
- Skill operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.
- Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner.
- Ability to demonstrate a polite, helpful, and courteous manner when engaged with the public.
- Ability to operate and care for equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and/or within the specified parameters.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the general public and colleagues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires moderate physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds. May require frequent crouching, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.
Salary : $42,719 - $63,235
