What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Lesson Lifeguard position at City of Minnetonka?
As a Swim Lesson/Pool Lifeguard, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining swimmer safety during lessons and open swim times, supporting instructors, and providing excellent customer service to participants and families. You’ll work in an indoor aquatic environment while supporting swim lessons and general aquatic programming while helping ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-run pool environment.
Schedule & Locations:
Moderately physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Occasionally lifts and/or move items weighing up to 30 lbs or heavier items (300 lbs) with assistance. When working outdoors, staff are exposed to all types of weather conditions.
Schedule & Locations:
- Sunday: Late morning through early evening
- Monday & Wednesday: Evening shifts
- Saturday: Morning shifts
- Locations: Williston Fitness Center and The Marsh
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool and surrounding deck during swim lessons and aquatic programs.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including swimmer rescues, first aid, and CPR as needed.
- Understand, follow, and enforce all facility rules, safety guidelines, and City of Minnetonka policies and procedures.
- Support swim lesson instructors by monitoring swimmer safety and assisting with transitions as needed.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with participants, parents/guardians, instructors, and fellow staff.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing questions and concerns in a calm, respectful, and timely manner.
- Assist with basic facility upkeep and general pool deck cleanliness to ensure a safe environment.
- Maintain positive working relationships with staff and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
- Seek assistance from the coordinator or manager when situations require additional support.
- Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification prior to employment Lifeguard
- Must be at least 16 years old at the time of hire.
- Must be available to attend job-specific trainings throughout the season.
- Preferred availability for the full season of employment.
