CITY OF MILLEDGEVILLE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Utility Service Worker
DEPARTMENT: Sanitary/Sewer Water Maintenance
SCHEDULE: Full-Time 8-hour shifts (On-Call when needed)
SALARY: Negotiable – $35,056.32/year, $16.854/hour
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: September 26 - October 10, 2025
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for performing VERY LABOR-INTENSIVE duties to assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines. Duties include assisting with cutting asphalt to install manholes and valves. Assist with repairing and replacing water and sewer pipes. Raise or lower manholes to street level. Operate a concrete saw and jackhammer to cut asphalt. Repair utility cuts necessitated by water and sewer repairs. Requests utility line locates from other utility providers. Operate a hydraulic tamp to compact asphalt. Inspect truck, including checking fluid and fuel levels and ensuring that appropriate equipment is in truck prior to it leaving the shop area.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Knowledge of safety and department policies and procedures pertaining to the installation of manholes.
- Knowledge of the location of manholes and valves.
- Knowledge of water maintenance operations
- Knowledge in using maintenance equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Assist other crews as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid State of Georgia Drivers License
- Skill in driving a truck.
- Skill in standard masonry practices.
- Skill in the use of such tools and equipment as shovels, picks, concrete saws, tapping machines, cement mixers, tampers, and hand tools.
- Effective communication skills both oral and written.
- Skill in raising and leveling manholes.
