CITY OF MILLEDGEVILLE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: REFUSE COLLECTOR
DEPARTMENT: Public Works - Yard Trimming & Collections
SCHEDULE: Full-Time – 8 Hour Shifts (On Call When Needed)
SALARY: $15.00/hour - $31,200/per year
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: September 26, 2025 – October 5, 2025
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for accompanying a refuse truck along a route to collect and load refuse. This is an entry level position within our Public Works Division.
MAJOR DUTIES:
o Assist with inspecting truck prior to leaving on route to ensure that it is properly cleaned, serviced, and equipped.
o Assist with unloading the truck at the landfill.
o Picks up and removes trash and dead animals along sides of streets.
o Inspect trash for prohibited items such as paint cans, batteries, needles, or tires.
o Assist driver in backing truck by giving directions.
o Performs routine maintenance of equipment, including washing, checking fluid levels, and lubricating.
KNOWLEDGED REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Knowledge of city and safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of refuse collection procedures.
- Skill in driving a truck.
- Skill in operating equipment used to unload and clean the leaf and limb truck.
- Skill in communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid State of Georgia driver's license.
