The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance support and logistics for the Parks & Recreation Department.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a parks and recreation role, or similar field, that required logistics, planning, and maintenance is required.
Mobility in a field environment with uneven terrain and during inclement weather is required.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, being on-call, and attending events or meetings after hours.
This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Licenses & Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.
National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Certified Playground Safety Inspector(CPSI) Certification is required, or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
Work Environment
Moderate exposure to various disagreeable elements. Includes continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to weather conditions, noise and dust. Physical demands require continuous effort in working with moderately heavy materials (up to 80 lbs.). Requires driving, climbing, lifting, carrying, digging, and exposure to equipment and machinery.
The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance support and logistics for the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Coordinates and provides maintenance support for special event activities including: logistics, planning, set-up, communicating and planning with supporting organizations/departments, take down, attending special event planning meetings, and working cohesively with the Special Event Coordinator.
- Assists the Parks Operations Manager by acting as a team leader for other park maintenance employees for functions relative to special events and projects in the maintenance division.
- Supervises and coordinates projects and maintenance under the direction of the Parks Operations Manager, including: developing maintenance schedule; creating estimates for projects; procuring appropriate tools, materials, and supplies; determining logistics; monitoring progress; ensuring completion and adherence to project; and preparing status reports.
- Maintains inventory and supply levels of chemicals, equipment, and products for the maintenance division including ordering needed items, ensuring proper storage, and verifying items are available for use as needed.
- Maintains records relating to event layouts, supplies, equipment inventories, fertilizer application logs, maintenance tasks and labor, project historical information including cost, pesticide, and inspection checklist items for park certifications.
- Assists the Parks Operations Manager by investigating and documenting accidents, graffiti, and vandalism, and coordinating necessary repairs.
- Ensures safety trainings relative to parks maintenance are conducted at least monthly, and ensures that park facilities, maintenance employee working conditions, and equipment operation procedures are conducted in a safe manner.
- Performs safety inspections and audits of all playground equipment on a weekly or monthly basis, as needed, documents the facility’s condition, and ensures necessary repairs are conducted as assigned.
- Assists with special projects.
- All other duties as assigned.
