Nature of Work
This position involves responsible childcare and developmental work in a municipal childcare facility serving children from infancy through five years of age.
Employees in this class are primarily responsible for program activity planning, and the daily supervision of a group of children in a child learning center. Emphasis of the work is on planning, carrying out activities which contribute to the social, physical, intellectual and emotional needs of the group and individual children and sharing with parents’ information concerning care and development of their children. An incumbent assesses the developmental needs of children, creates plans that address those needs, provides children with resources and access to activities to foster a social and intellectual stimulating learning environment, and performs daily health checks. Work is performed under the supervision of the Center Administrator or designee .
Essential Functions
Plans and conducts daily activities for children from infancy through five years of age.
Plansteaching methods and techniques for children from infancy through five years of age.
Maintains an orderly physical environment conducive to optimal growth and development of children.
Attends staff and parent meetings.
Assists in observing and reporting individual and group behavior and encourages early intervention, if needed.
Ensures the safety of all children; records and reports any incidences or injuries.
Produces quarterly evaluations to measure the developmental and educational outcomes and identify areas of concern for continuous improvement.
Performs annual assessments for the Early Learning Coalition School Readiness Program.
Maintains all daily classroom logs up to date and creates and implements weekly lesson plans.
Attends mandatory in-service trainings.
Conducts diaper changing by carrying a child to changing table following standard procedures for proper diaper changing and hand washing.
Assists with the collection of various fees.
Maintains a clean and sanitary environment.
Shares appropriate information with other day care staff members.
Conducts toileting, washing hands, faces, tying shoes, etc.
Reports any suspicions of abuse to the administration and to DCF immediately, if detected.
Maintains common areas, toys, and educational materials disinfected according to CDC Guidelines.
Follows proper health and sanitation procedures established by the Florida Department of Health.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or its equivalent, possession of avalid Florida Department of Children and Families Staff Credential Verification, the Florida Department of Children and Families 40 hour Introductory Child Care Facility Training, Emergent Literacy for VPK Instructor, and Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome training, First Aid & Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and two (2) years of experience working in an early childhood care program or child-care facility. Some supervision experience is preferred. All required training must be maintained valid throughout employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Fire Extinguisher Training must be possessed after 30 days of employment. The Florida Department of Children and Families 10 hours or 1.0 Continued Education Unit (CEU) of in-service training must be completed on a yearly basis during the state's fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
Must complete at least 24 hours of department approved professional development annually in order to maintain employment in the classification.
Must comply with all background screening requirements set forth by the State of Florida Statute Chapter 435.04, and any other applicable laws.
Candidates will be subject to a Level II background screening and will be subject to screening through the Florida Clearinghouse ( https://info.flclearinghouse.com) .
