What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Department Program Coordinator position at City of Marion?
Under general supervision, responsible for the setting and oversight of recreation programs and events, and act as liaison of city sponsored recreation and related public events. Assists in performing office duties, including typing correspondence, reports, and records. Maintains filing system. Maintains payroll and benefits records.

Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work of this position. Example of qualified candidate is one who has training and/or work experience in parks and recreation, experience in typing, computers, bookkeeping, posting on social media and office procedures, must possess valid driver’s license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42USC 12101.
1. Plans, organizes, and assists with all park events, Garden House and Gardens rentals (may include weekends).
2. Develops programs and events for youth and adults; promotes new and existing programs and facilities within the community.
3. Manages and markets events in the Gardens of Matter Park and the Garden House.
4. Schedules use of departmental facilities by outside groups.
5. Manages sports leagues; develops rules and regulations; sets up organizational meetings seasonally; recruits league managers and sports officials; keeps records and statistics.
6. Manages inventory; purchases materials, supplies, and equipment.
7. Manages and updates social media accounts.
8. Performs various clerical and administrative duties; gives information on projects; greets public in office; schedules shelters, ball diamonds, and take monies and makes daily deposits.
9. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
10. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote city-wide safety and housekeeping as well as take a proactive approach to preventive maintenance and delivery of quality service.
2. Handles public inquiries and complaints.
3. Maintain a positive relationship with citizens and co-workers.
4. Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES necessary to perform duties (* indicates developed after employment).
1. Knowledge: Department policies and procedures; safety practices and procedures; inventory controls; park and recreation facilities, equipment and supplies; community resources and services; office practices and procedures; supervisory principles and practices.
2. Skills and Abilities: Computer operation; use of modern office equipment; mathematics; writing.
3. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, sit, stand, bend, or stoop for long periods of time. Must possess the sensory capacities to efficiently and successfully execute essential job functions.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Indiana driver’s license and meet city insurability requirements.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Resident of Grant County, Indiana, or ability to obtain residency within six (6) months.
