The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking a Water & Sewer Maintenance I to join our Public Works team! As a Water & Sewer Maintenance I, you will be responsible for the operation of all water and sewer facilities and infrastructure for the city of Maple Grove. Additionally, you will be tasked with operating required maintenance tools and equipment to complete preventive maintenance and repair tasks. - Inspects lift stations.
- Jets, vacuums and flushes sanitary and storm sewers.
- Maintains and repairs water lines and service lines.
- Operates fire hydrants; performs water system repair in emergency situations.
- Monitors flow, pressure readings, draw downs.
- Locates manholes/street lights, and Gopher State One calls.
- Monitors, maintains and repairs municipal water and sewer system.
- Installs meters, test or usage recording equipment; removes and resets meters, and usage recording equipment.
- Reads, estimates and records usage from meters; determines cause for unusual readings.
- Plows snow as required using light equipment.
- Responds to “on call”, after hours emergencies as required, with rotating shifts.

COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of:
- Practices, procedures, equipment and materials used in public works utility maintenance and construction.
- Safe operation of motorized equipment.
- Operation of light construction and maintenance equipment.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Need to have:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minnesota Driver’s License is required and must have or obtain a Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit within six (6) months from hire date, and the actual MN CDL license must be obtained within one year from date of hire.
- Ability to obtain a Class “D” water operations license and class “SD” sewer collectors license within two years [DT1]of hire date.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Water/Wastewater program.
- Experience working in municipal utility maintenance department is desired.
- Gopher State One Call locator experience is desired.
- Experience operating trucks, jetting, and other light equipment is desired.
Environmental Conditions:
Field environment; exposure to inclement weather conditions; work around equipment; work in confined spaces.
Physical Conditions:
Physical ability necessary to bend, stoop, twist, turn, kneel, lift and stand for prolonged periods of time, and climb in and out of manholes which are up to 30 feet deep. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. occasionally.
