The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking a dedicated Light Equipment Operator! As the light equipment operator, you will be responsible for the operation of construction and maintenance equipment used for streets, roads, and other public facilities of the city limits. You will be challenged to help keep the prestigious reputation we have set for our city by adding to our construction and maintenance efforts. Hiring Salary: $65,634.40
*The hiring salary for this position is $65,634.40. You will be eligible to receive any cost of living and annual step increase as laid out in the union contract until you reach the maximum salary of $87,763.52.

Eligible List
The eligible list for this posting will remain valid through October 2026 and may be used to fill any future vacancies
for the Light Equipment Operator position that occur while the list is active.
- Raises, lowers and rebuilds manhole casings to grade.
- Builds, replaces and maintains storm sewer catch basins and field drains.
- Plows sidewalks, streets, parking lots and parking ramps using light equipment; also applies sand/salt with motorized vehicle.
- Prepares surfaces for repairs, performs crack sealing and minor blacktop patching on streets and parking lots using light equipment.
- Installs and repairs signs and barricades.
- Lays out and applies street traffic markings with various types of paint, machinery and stencils.
- Hauls materials using light equipment.
- Loads and unloads trucks; clears and grubs sites using light equipment.
- Prepares ground for seed/sod/plantings.
- Removes/disposes of diseased/dead trees, shrubs, plants and related debris according to requirements.
- Performs driver-type vehicle maintenance, (e.g. check fluid levels, air in tires).
- Picks up litter/empty trash containers on any City/Public land.
- Sweeps and/or washes streets, parking lots, curbs or sidewalks using light equipment.
- Performs flood control activities.
- Flags and directs traffic.
- Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Practices, procedures, equipment and materials used in public works maintenance and construction.
- Safe operation of motorized equipment.
- Operation of light construction and maintenance equipment.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Need to have:
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- One year experience operating trucks and other light equipment.
- Minnesota Driver's License is required and must have or obtain a Minnesota Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit within 60 days from hire date, and the MN CDL - Class A license must be obtained within 12 months from date of hire.
Nice to have:
- Street maintenance experience in municipal setting.
- Three years experience in heavy equipment operation.
- Training or coursework in heavy maintenance operation.
