Airport Maintenance Worker/Technician

The City of Manassas is accepting applications to join our Airport Maintenance Team!  Located at the beautiful Manassas Regional Airport, we are looking for an energetic, proactive team-player who enjoys completing indoor and outdoor maintenance.  Our Airport is currently working towards becoming a 139 certificated airport.

• Maintains a variety of airfield equipment: Inspects, troubleshoots and repairs airfield lighting; maintains diesel generator at air traffic control tower including changing oil and maintaining proper battery charge; inspects, maintains and repairs gates at airport including electric and manual gate openers; and repairs replaces chains, casters, rollers, and tires.
• Performs HVAC maintenance and repairs on commercial and residential units.
• Performs building maintenance: Conducts electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, painting, and lock-smithing; changes light bulbs and replaces ballasts; and performs roof repairs on rubber, standing seam and metal roofs.
• Maintains airport grounds: Mows airport owned properties, runways, and taxiways; plants, trims, edges and weeds beds; trims trees in aircraft approach lanes and roadways; and performs pesticide and herbicide control on airport owned buildings and properties including terminal building, control tower, hangars, fence lines, ditches, trees, and turf.
• Performs maintenance on grounds keeping equipment.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair on airport owned hangars.
• Receives, reviews, prepares, processes various records and reports such as work orders, logs, repair manuals, and verbal requests, etc.
• Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment such as tractors, holder, snow broom, snowplow, snow blower, computer, etc.
• Uses a variety of tools such as multi-meter, clinometers, socket set, drill, impact driver, etc.; a variety of supplies such as lamps, contactors, hangar cables, ballast, lights, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, etc.
• Performs other duties as required.
  

• Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment including zero-turn mowers, skid steers, front-end loaders, tractors, dump trucks (single and tandem), snow brooms, snow plows, snow blowers, sweeper trucks, brush trucks, and tractors with mounted mowing or spraying equipment.
• Maintains airport airside and groundside: mows runways, taxiways, roads and airport-owned property; plants, trims, edges, and weeds beds; trims trees in runway approach surfaces and roadways; applies pesticides, herbicides, deicing material and fertilizers; removes litter, brush, and debris. Asphalt crack sealing and painting. 
• Installs and maintains landscaping, irrigation systems, and perimeter security fencing when applicable to airport property.
• Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair on equipment: changes oil, greases parts, sharpens blades, replaces hydraulic lines and valves, and conducts tune-ups.
• Drives special-purpose vehicles with mounted tanks to for applying de-icing chemicals and pellets, insecticides, or other liquids. Performs runway friction measurement, and participates in bird and wildlife control and removal.
• Responds to emergencies including inclement weather, aircraft recovery assistance, and snow/ice removal operations; may serve as lead operator during snow events.
• Receives, prepares, and maintains records such as work orders, maintenance reports, spray records, time cards, and logs.
• Communicates with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the public to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve issues
• Performs other duties as required. 

• High School diploma or GED 
• Two years of experience in operations or maintenance work

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
• Four years of experience in airfield, grounds or roadway maintenance including operation of medium to heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
