CLASSIFICATION TITLE: CREW WORKER (TRANSPORTATION)
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform unskilled to semi-skilled and manual labor work in the maintenance of the City’s roads, sidewalks, and stormwater conveyance structures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs general laboring tasks in one of the following areas: transportation and stormwater utility.
- Uses hand tools to repair roads, clean ditches, finish concrete, and locate utility lines.
- Assists with repairs to roads, service cuts, utility services, curbs, and gutters; patches potholes; changes or replaces manhole covers; replaces risers; fills in sink holes.
- Operates a variety of trucks and equipment in performing tasks.
- Participates in cleaning equipment and performing preventive maintenance; makes minor repairs to equipment.
- Observes all safety rules and guidelines.
- Finishes concrete; makes repairs on sidewalks; lays brick sidewalks; removes old concrete to landfill; cuts rebar; makes curbs and gutters.
- Sweeps and cleans streets.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Trains new crew members on road maintenance skills and procedures.
- Flags traffic.
- Inspects equipment and assigned work area for safety hazards.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
