Job Overview

Join our vibrant team as a Park Maintenance Assistant and play a vital role in ensuring our parks and recreational areas are safe, beautiful, and inviting for the City of Lowell. In this energetic position, you will be responsible for maintaining athletic fields, landscaped areas, and general grounds through hands-on work with various tools and equipment. Your efforts will help create welcoming outdoor spaces that promote health, recreation, and environmental stewardship.

DUTIES:

• Directly responsible for activities to properly maintained park areas, museum grounds and ball fields.
• Work with the Parks Maintenance Supervisor to accomplish the park maintenance daily and yearly duties.
• Purchases equipment and supplies as directed by the Parks Maintenance Supervisor to perform job duties.
• Maintain equipment inventory and reports to Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
• Administers safety inspections for equipment usage.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
• Ability to work assignments safely with minimal supervision.
• Ability to assess safety and maintenance needs for parks upkeep and proper equipment usage.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Ability to solve problems and adjust daily activities in a logical manner to ensure safety of personal security and equipment safety.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment use, lawn care equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for all maintenance equipment, hazardous materials, and land use.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school education with at least 1-year job experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Work is normally performed in an outdoor environment.
• Heavy equipment will be used.
• Equipment with moving parts and blades is required.
• Lifting over 50 pounds is required on a regular basis.
• Temperature extremes from freezing to over 100 degree Fahrenheit are required.
• Chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers are used.
• Risk of physical injury is normal to high.
