The City of Lenexa’s Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Recreation Program Instructor - Dance to assist our engaging recreation dance classes and provide friendly, hands-on support to our dance instructor and participants at our facilities.
Position Summary
Under the general guidance of the Recreation Supervisor, the Assistant Recreation Program Instructor of Dance supports our dance instructor with on-site coordination, preparation, and supervision of participants to ensure a safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for all.
Schedule: Weekday evenings between the hours of 4-9pm, and Saturday mornings. Schedule will be driven by enrollment numbers, with varying days and hours.
Key Responsibilities
Physical and Environmental Factors: Work is performed at our Old Town Activity Center. This position requires the physical ability, strength, and stamina to assist participants and conduct programs; the ability to lift and move supplies related to activities and events; the ability to sit or stand for extended periods; and visual acuity to review information.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen. A background check is required for applicants ages 18 and older.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to participants by ensuring programs are set up and supplies are ready.
- Sets up and/or tears down rooms - may include set-up of ballet bars, chairs and supplies.
- Keep materials organized and stored properly.
- Assist instructors and participants throughout the duration of the program.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment by monitoring participants, cleaning spaces, and enforcing policies.
- Assists instructor with planning of holiday performance and spring dance recital.
- Helps instructor complete forms and reports, including incident and attendance reports.
- Support attendee check-in and check-out.
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Previous experience as a dancer or as dance instructor.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
