GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping work and/or Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) data processing work of routine difficulty and performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HS Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Successful completion of at least two years of course work (i.e., 48 semester hours) from an accredited college or university, including at least 8 hours in geographic coursework.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years in one or a combination of the following:
1)Any geographical measurement work including, but not limited to computer aided drafting design, software applications development for GIS, or the creation of maps or related reports using GIS,
OR
2) Any information systems work including, but not limited to computer programming, database administration, or information systems analysis.
OR
3) Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
DRIVER LICENSE
Valid Tennessee driver’s license and clear driving record are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIROMENT, AND RESONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, and to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds or more.
Hardware used, scanner, copier, fax machine, large document plotter, GPS data collector, and computer. Software used Microsoft Office. ESRI ArcGIS, AutoDesk Products, Trimble Geo 7x and any extensions to these basic programs. Duties are performed in the office environment and outdoors which requires ability to move about construction sites. Employee will work outside and may be exposed weather conditions such as sun and/or humid conditions. Noise level is usually moderate. Attendance at council meetings, work sessions, other meetings outside of normal business hours, travel between city offices or job sites will be required from time to time. Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed for cemetery duties. May be subject to call back when covering vacations or other absences for Cemetery Administrator.

- Maintain GIS utilities data by acquiring necessary data, inputting information, checking data integrity, and logging the status of all data received.
- Perform data collection, inspections, and field assignments.
- Uploads collected data into city databases using various electronic media.
- Maintains fluency in GIS software.
- Perform in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Represent the City in a professional manner.
- Checks own work for accuracy and completeness.
- Compiles Geographic Data from a variety of sources including engineering as-builts, field observations, aerial photographs and existing maps.
- Learns to create/revise maps and reports using geospatial data and GIS software according to cartographic design principles.
- Operates GIS hardware, plotters, and printers.
- Provides support to both internal and external users for GIS applications, hardware, software and databases, including permitting and asset management software.
- Responds to inquiries from the public and distributes data to internal and external customers as needed.
- Regular, on-time attendance and dependable performance are essential requirements for this role.
