Performs entry level work under the direction of the Water Conservation Program Manager. This position performs a variety of tasks related to water conservation and involves some field work in dealing with the public in transmitting the water conservation message to our city.

- Provide support to the water conservation team.
- Carry out notifications and tracking of commercial sprinkler system irrigation system inspections.
- Assist with customer irrigation system evaluations.
- Provide basic office functions, such as computer and excel support
- Attend and assist with planning and promotion of water conservation program events.
- Other duties as assigned related to water conservation.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma.
- Current enrollment in a college or university studying the following disciplines: Biology, Geology, Geography, Environmental Sciences & Policy, Agriculture, Engineering, Communications, Public Administration or related field.
Preferred Education and Certifications
- Associate’s degree in Biology, Geology, Geography, Environmental Sciences & Policy, Agriculture, Engineering, Communications, Public Administration or related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Strong interest in or familiarity in or around water conservation as it relates to municipal government.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, city staff, and community stakeholders.
- Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Skilled in operating computers and utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), data entry systems, and presentation software; familiarity with data analysis tools and GIS mapping is a plus.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage scheduling, meet deadlines, and maintain dependability in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to understand water efficiency policy and practice at local, state and national levels.
- Ability to understand municipal water system operations.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate with other employees and the public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, the public, elected officials, and boards and commissions.
- Ability to learn the use of native plants in landscapes.
- Ability to learn landscape irrigation.
- Must be able to wear city provided uniform and city issued personal protective equipment, steel-toed leather boots, gloves, eye protection, head protection, safety vest, and ear protection.
- Workers must be able to follow safety procedures and use safety equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety.
