What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor- part time (year round position) position at City Of League City?
Be responsible for the demands and requirements of a group of children ranging from 4 to 15 years old. Supervise and participate in all activities. Set an example for behavior and attitude. Ensure a safe supportive environment for all staff and participants. During the school year, camp counselors will provide support to the youth programming, adaptive recreation, and outdoor recreation. During the summer, camp counselors will serve as a counselor for Camp by the Creek. This is a safety sensitive position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, evenings, and weekends. Shifts may vary based on camps and programming needs, special events, seasonal activities, and employee on duty shifts. Consistent attendance and punctuality are required to ensure the safety, supervision, and positive experience of all campers and patrons.

- Responsible for the safety and well-being of participants.
- Assist in the supervision of all camp field trips.
- Work cooperatively with Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Camp Counselors, maintenance staff, and parents.
- Maintain discipline with children during all activities under the guidelines of the handbook.
- Follow all City of League City policies and procedures.
- Keep the Camp Director appraised of situations requiring his/her attention.
- Attend trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
- Work hands on with kids between the ages of 4 to 12 years old in a variety of activities.
- Mentor campers ages 13 to 15 years old in the counselor-in-training program by providing them guidance and support throughout the program
- Provide regular feedback to program coordinator to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of programs offered.
- Work with Camp Director during the school year to provide support with the youth programs throughout the year to include: Homeschool PE, Adaptive Programming, Kids Night, Day Camps, School Break Camps, Outdoor Recreation, and other new programming as implemented.
- Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
- At least 18 years or older
- Experience with kids 4 to 15 years old
- Ability to swim (This role involves work in and around water; therefore, candidates must be able to swim confidently)
PREFERRED:
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Previous camp or child care experience
- Experience with sports preferred
- The principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation Administration and recreation programming
