This position prepares and monitors budget activities; administers and maintains a variety of accounts and financial records and provides budgetary forecasts, detailed and complex reports and modifications; administers banking relations; administers the cash handling functions throughout the city; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Ideal Candidate
This position is responsible for a wide range of complex financial and accounting duties, including but not limited to the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and maintenance of the general ledger. This role may also perform monthly reconciliations, prepare and monitor budget activities, and manages a variety of financial records and accounts. Key responsibilities also include providing budgetary forecasts, generating detailed financial reports and modifications, and overseeing the City’s cash handling functions. Additionally, the position administers banking relationships and performs various technical tasks related to the assigned area
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a robust understanding of accounting principles and practices, with a particular focus on maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts. This candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial records and reports. In addition, the candidate will have proficiency in accounting software and systems, with experience in managing month-end and year-end closing processes. They will exhibit excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. They will show a proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies and a commitment to continuous improvement in accounting processes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Financial Analyst I
Experience:
One year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, budgeting, grants, or investments.
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance or a field related to the essential functions. A combination of formal education and directly related work experience may substitute for the degree. The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Financial Analyst II
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience involving analytical work in finance, budgets, grants, audit or investments. Municipal government experience is desirable.
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance or a field related to the essential functions. A combination of formal education and directly related work experience may substitute for the degree. The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Sr Financial Analyst
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience involving analytical work in finance, budgets, grants, investments, organizational performance management, or business process re-engineering. Financial reporting experience is desirable. Supervisory or lead experience is also desirable.
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major in accounting, finance or a field related to the essential functions. May substitute a combination of equivalent education and related experience. The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
