City of Laramie is accepting applications in the Patrol Division of the Police Department for a Community Service Officer (CSO). A CSO performs a variety of civilian law enforcement support duties in support of the Police Department services and activities. The current opening involves parking enforcement functions and activities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrol a designated area and enforce parking ordinances, mark tires of parked vehicles and issue summons for vehicles in violation of parking ordinances.
- Participate in abandoned vehicle recovery including marking tires of abandoned vehicles.
- Direct and re-route vehicular and pedestrian traffic due to traffic signal malfunction, accidents, fires, special events, and acts of nature and hazardous spills.
- Respond to and perform basic investigation of non-injury, minor traffic accidents not involving serious offenses and issue violation summonses.
- Take reports of non-emergency or “cold” crimes.
- Investigate minor larceny complaints; process information on subject and lost or stolen property.
- Handle cases involving bicycle theft; collect, catalog and write reports of found, abandoned or recovered bicycles.
QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying):
- High School Diploma or GED and experience working with the general public.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license. Less than 3 moving violations in the past 36 months.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather conditions, including towing a small trailer.
- Must be available for shift work and on some holidays and weekends.
- Physical requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.; exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
