The City of Lansing is seeking a qualified and motivated Street Supervisor to join our Operations and Maintenance Division. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience in public works, specifically in the construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets. We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of the equipment, tools, materials, and techniques used in street maintenance operations. A well-rounded knowledge of related areas—such as grounds maintenance, winter operations, refuse collection, sewer systems, and urban forestry or horticulture—is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also possess specialized experience in supervising and evaluating street maintenance work, as well as a thorough understanding of applicable laws, ordinances, safety practices, and regulations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- May be subject to emergency call in and may be required to work non-traditional hours as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
The successful candidate will possess the following:- High School Diploma or GED required, Associate Degree highly desirable.
- Four (4) years of experience performing construction, maintenance, and repairs of City streets.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience as a work group leader or supervisor where work direction was given to others in a Public Works environment.
Essential Position Functions Include but are not limited to:
- Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in a wide range of street maintenance and repair needs, including: base repair, reconditioning after curb and gutter repair, pothole patching, leveling bumps, resurfacing or paving of streets, skin patching, crack sealing, spray patch, making utility cuts, material hauling, and street repair.
- Ensures proper equipment and materials are available, assigns specific duty, and inspects the progress of the work.
- Ensures proper construction methods and finishing procedures are used for asphalt, concrete, and pavement marking materials.
- Ensures proper traffic control devices are used for the closure of streets and to work sites.
- Coordinate and work in conjunction with MDOT and other local agencies.
- Knowledge of and oversees snow plowing and road salting operations on major and local streets.
- Determines work requirements by using technical plans, City policies, material specifications and targeted response timelines.
- Participates in the development of an annual work plan for budget operations and forecasting future requirements of personnel, equipment, technology, and capital improvements to infrastructure.
