What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Distribution Laborer position at City of La Salle?
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City’s water infrastructure. Position is primarily responsible for repair of water main breaks, service line breaks, flushing hydrants, and all maintenance of city water lines and equipment. The position provides water distribution repairs and maintenance in all weather conditions and will require 24 hour on call service along with rotating phone coverage.
Qualifications Required
· Class “D” water operator certification or the ability to obtain within 1 year of acceptance
· Valid Commercial Drivers Licenses from the State of Illinois
· Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
· Four (4) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, general maintenance, and/or repair or
· Experience in any facet of public works is preferable
· Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities
· Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
· Ability to work safely
· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public
· Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
