Summary of Position
Under the direction of the Division Manager of Recreation, the Aquatics Maintenance Technician provides general routine maintenance and repairs for aquatic facility components to ensure customer satisfaction and safety for employees, citizens, and visitors of City aquatic facilities. Responsible for repairing and maintaining the aquatic system including but not limited to plumbing system, pumps and motors, filters, chemical feed systems, aquatic structures, interactive water features, etc.
The minimum starting base pay is $20.60 - $25.38/Hourly* Competitive Benefits
(Eligible experience, education, and expertise may provide a greater starting base pay within the full pay grade)

Provides general, routine maintenance and repairs for the department's aquatic facility components and grounds: including monitoring and maintaining the filtration systems; testing water chemistry; and making necessary chemical adjustments to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Responsible for repairing and maintaining the aquatic systems including, but not limited to, plumbing system, pumps and motors, filters, chemical feed systems, aquatic structures, interactive water features, etc.
Performs comprehensive maintenance of aquatic grounds.
Maintains a schedule of routine and preventative maintenance activities.
Ensures timely completion of work orders and maintains required records and reports.
Winterizes pumps, motors, restrooms and all areas within the aquatic facilities.
Maintain and be responsible for city-owned tools, equipment, city-owned vehicle, and inventory.
Must be able to work flexible work schedule and irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment involved in the operation of municipal swimming facilities.
Knowledge of practices of operation and preventative maintenance for pumps, suction lines, drains, piping, valves, skimmer baskets, flow and control switches of each system.
Knowledge of general aquatic maintenance and repair techniques depending on the area of assignment.
Knowledge of safe handling aquatic related to hazardous chemicals and materials.
Knowledge of Parks & Recreation administration and methods; recreation and general programming.
Knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws involving any parks and recreation specifications.
Ability to perform normal pool cleaning services.
Ability to analyze problems, provide alternatives, and identify solutions in support of divisions goals.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with other city officials, the general public, and the news media.
Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency.
Ability to operate the following: computer, printer, telephone, copy machine, calculator, and vehicle.
Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
Ability to organize work for timely completion.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Communicate effectively in verbal or written form.
Attend staff, committee, and council meetings and assist with presentations as needed.
Provide support at various departmental programs/activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Serves as a primary driver of a City vehicle to conduct official City business, maintaining compliance with all safety and operational standards.
- Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire, a valid Texas Driver’s License and eligible for coverage under the City of Kyle’s vehicle insurance provider.
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least three years experience in operation and maintenance of swimming or water-related facilities
- American Red Cross First Aid Certification within six months of date of hire
- Experience in municipal or commercial aquatic facility operations
- Natioanl Parks and Recreation Splash Pad Certification
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)

The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
