SALARY DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS


Performs complex professional and administrative work managing the design, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of the City's electric operations systems and facilities, and related work as required. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Public Services. Division supervision is exercised over all division personnel.
  • Planning, organizing and directing the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electric power transmission and distribution systems and related facilities; Maintains records; Prepares reports.
  • Supervises and manages all personnel assigned to the Electric Utility Division including: employee selection, training, performance appraisal, counseling, promotion, termination and overall adherence to City personnel policies and safety regulations.
  • Supervises the maintenance and installation of transmission lines, distribution lines, street lines, substations and any related electrical facilities.
  • Develops, reviews and analyzes new contracts with customers, other utilities, engineering groups and construction companies; evaluates contractor proposals; assists electric operations with setting scope of work for new projects.
  • Plans and directs the engineering, construction, maintenance and repair of electric distribution lines, substations and related facilities.
  • Projects revenue, costs and margin from potential projects, new customers and new electrical loads; develops new electrical rates.
  • Supervises electric metering program including the purchasing, installation and repair of metering devices. 
  • Provides industrial and commercial customers with energy audits; assists customers with billing questions.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints; answers questions dealing with electrical service, rates, power quality problems, meter problems and causes of electrical outages; investigates customer complaints and power quality problems..
  • Calculates voltage drop, fault current, size of new generators for customers and amount of electrical load a circuit can carry.
  • Provides technical assistance as needed to ensure adequate service; ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to electric utility management.
  • Receives and responds to internal and external customer inquiries and complaints; investigates and resolves problems.
  • Monitors expenditures.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of the department operating and capital budgets; monitors expenditures; approves purchases, payments, change orders and budget requests for division
  • Makes oral presentations to community groups or other organizations on behalf of City.
  • Performs related tasks as required. 
     
  • Bachelor's degree in electric engineering or related field with extensive experience of a wide and progressively responsible nature in electric utility management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 10 years experience preferred.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel; work requires distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).

Salary : $99,965 - $139,277
