What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker I Trash Collection (Temp-To-Hire) position at City of Kingsport, TN?
Purpose
Performing a variety of manual tasks associated with trash collection. This is a temporary position with the potential to be hired full-time.
Essential Functions
- Collect and load trash/waste into rear-loading garbage truck along designated routes;
- Transport trash to the landfill;
- Unload and dump trash at the landfill;
- Ensures all tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner;
- Performs appropriate inspections and keeps equipment and vehicles clean and in safe working conditions;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently:
- Knowledge of the appropriate skilled trades associated with the assigned department;
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of relevant equipment;
- Skill in performing manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions;
- Skill in reading schematics and following written instructions;
- Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing, including tactful and courteous communications with the public;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, other city personnel, and the public.
Education and Experience
- No education required;
- Experience working in a team environment;
- Valid TN or VA driver’s license.
