This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in a fast-paced local government environment while building valuable administrative and customer service skills.

The Public Works Student Clerk must demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

The Student Clerk must regularly speak and listen; must meet standard vision requirements; must regularly sit, stand, and walk; must demonstrate acceptable manual dexterity and fine motor skills; must regularly lift files, open file cabinets, and bend as necessary; and must occasionally lift office products or supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a year-round, variable-hour position expected to work fewer than 30 hours per week. Some flexibility is available to work around class schedules. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is not required. The work typically takes place in an office environment. This classification is non-exempt under the FLSA.
This position is not subject to health or retirement benefits. But, this position is eligible for Washington State Paid Sick Leave to accrue 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.

- Answers incoming phone calls and assists walk-in customers by providing general information, responding to questions, and directing inquiries related to departmental procedures, policies, and services.
- Enters invoices and requisitions into accounts payable and requisitions systems
- Files, copies, and scans various documents and reports
- Sets up and maintains files within established filing systems
- Performs data entry with accuracy and attention to detail
- Prepares door hangers for construction notices, scheduled water outages and other departmental notifications.
- Collects and distributes incoming mail
- Conducts monthly janitorial supply inventory and reports stock levels as needed
