Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
- Responsible for security functions and implementation of procedures and measures to secure the safety and protection of employees, visitors, and municipal properties.
- Manages the Access Control Systems under the direction of the Security Supervisor.
- Creates and tracks employee identification cards and provides security-level access to staff.
- Manages and maintains the CCTV systems throughout professional office building and KC Water process facilities.
- Assists in managing a moderate size group of private security contractors including site visits, training, review of contract invoices, and supplies.
- Assists with security policies and procedures.
- Conducts site investigations, reviews accidents, damages, losses/thefts, and responds to job sites during incidents.
- Participates in delivering staff security training and New Employee Orientation.
- Must be available for some weekends and holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES
- High school graduation and possession of certificate of completion of a recognized police academy at the state, county or municipal level and 3 years' experience as a fully commissioned police officer;
- OR an accredited Associate’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related area and 1 year of responsible security and/or law enforcement experience;
- OR high school graduation and 5 years of responsible security and/or law enforcement experience.
- Must be eligible to obtain a special police commission as issued by the KCMO Police Department.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
