Location: 1720 Wabash Ave
Pay Starting at: $22.61 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m. during training; shifts vary after depending on operational needs

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:
  • Turn water service valves on and off at assigned addresses to safely restore or discontinue service for customers
  • Install, replace, and inspect water meters and related equipment to ensure accurate billing and reliable service
  • Use maps, drawings, and service records to locate curb boxes and meter vaults, then dig, clean, or access them as needed
  • Receive daily work assignments from a central office or radio dispatcher and complete work independently in the field
  • Respond to customer questions and concerns with professionalism, tact, and courtesy while representing the City
  • Follow utility policies, safety procedures, and quality standards, with work subject to periodic inspection by a technical supervisor


Qualifications

REQUIRES
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months of experience in general construction, maintenance, or repair work
  • Valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies
  • Ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A, B, or C within the probationary period, if required by the department
  • Ability to pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City
  • Ability to pass a background check as prescribed by the City
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
