Kansas City, Missouri is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Project Engineer (Transportation Project Engineer) to advance the City’s nationally recognized Vision Zero initiatives and industry leading multimodal transportation policies and projects. This desired candidate will shape the future of mobility in one of the country’s most innovative urban transportation environments—driving safety, sustainability, equity, and accessibility across all modes of travel. What You'll Do:- Implements and advances Kansas City’s Vision Zero program, ensuring data driven, equitable, and measurable progress toward eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
- Leads development and implementation of multimodal transportation strategies, including pedestrian, bicycle, micromobility, traffic, freight, and emerging mobility technologies.
- Advises City colleagues and management on mobility policy, infrastructure investments, and long term transportation planning.
- Champions a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration across city departments and regional partners.
- Oversees and execute planning, design, and implementation of mobility projects that support safe, efficient, and sustainable travel.
- Coordinates departmental efforts within the Multimodal team, and including efforts with other Public Works divisions, and with Planning, Public Safety, and external agencies.
- Manages performance metrics, reporting, and public dashboards for Vision Zero and assigned Multimodal initiatives.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while pursuing grants and funding opportunities.
- Builds strong relationships with residents, advocacy groups, business leaders, and transportation partners.
- Leads and advances public outreach efforts to communicate mobility goals, project impacts, and safety initiatives.
- Represents Kansas City at regional, state, and other forums on transportation innovation and policy.
- Coordinates with and manage projects across a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, analysts, and program managers.
- Manages budgets, contracts, and resource allocation for mobility programs.
- Fosters a diverse, inclusive, and high performing team environment.
