Description
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of city property.
Examples of Duties
- Help maintain city property, streets, utilities, and any other city property that needs attention under direct supervision.
- Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces city property as directed.
- Performs custodial work such as required and assigned.
- Collects and disposes of solid waste from city property; picks up litter from premises.
- Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, prepares facilities for use.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Complete tasks assigned by supervisors.
- Ensure effective and efficient use of time.
Typical Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Any equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Skill in operation of: Lawn and landscaping equipment, mowers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for maintenance.
- Ability to: work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; communicate orally and in writing; use equipment and tools properly and safely; understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

- May occasionally lift weights up to 100 lbs.*

Work Environment:
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions to include frequent exposure to heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Frequently works in heavy traffic areas and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Noise levels in the work environment are frequently loud.
