What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Compliance Specialist position at City of Jennings?
The City of Jennings is accepting applications for a Full-Time Community Compliance Specialist. The Community Compliance Specialist reports to the City Services Director and performs important work to help keep the city safe and clean by enforcing city ordinances about property care and nuisance problems. Duties include looking into complaints, taking pictures and notes of violations, handling paperwork for warrants and vehicle towing, giving court summons when needed, and dealing with serious property problems. Must have valid driver’s license and knowledge of code enforcement principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts inspections related to public health, severe property violations, and persistent nuisance cases. Administers and process administrative warrant applications, towing applications, and related documentation. Responds to high-priority complaints and investigate ongoing code violations affecting public health and safety. Issues court summons for violations of city ordinances Accesses and utilizes REJIS to review case information and assist in compliance tracking and enforcement efforts. Coordinates with the police, planning and zoning, building department, prosecuting attorneys, and other staff or agencies on serious property violations and enforcement actions. Maintains clear and accurate logs, records, and reports of inspections, actions taken, and case progress. Reviews cases being prepared for trial with emphasis on the evidence and legal issues crucial to successful prosecution. Prepare detailed reports of activities and investigations made; consult with prosecutors and prepare case reports for court action; testifies in court. Serves as a liaison between the City Services Department and Municipal Court regarding code related to legal processes. Assists in preparing evidence and documentation for legal proceedings. May represent the city in court as a witness during code violation hearings. Provides exceptional service to residents by explaining city code requirements, violation procedures, and compliance options. Subject to possible 24-hour emergency call
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting, and bookkeeping. Three (3) years experience related to building inspection or construction. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. No disqualifying criminal history.
