Description The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Transit Operations Assistant for JeffTran. This position assists the Transit Operations Supervisor in training, supervising and evaluating Transit Division employees. Responsible for collecting and making deposits of various transit fares and maintaining various operating information and reports.
Assists Operations Supervisor with Transit division security and safety responsibilities. Dispatches drivers and equipment, coordinates daily scheduling of transit services, ensures safety of transit vehicles and equipment, fills in as a driver when needed and provides other support functions as necessary. Examples of Duties Coordinates and directs daily transit activities including supervision and counseling of employees; assists with training, evaluating and qualifying operators in all aspects of transit bus operation and provision of transportation services.
Enters and maintains various operating information and reports in computer system. Issues and accounts for change money and various transit passes; fills out and makes daily deposits from sale of various transit passes and paratransit service fares; retrieves and makes weekly deposits of regular route fares from transit fare vaults removed from buses. Responsible for retrieval and evaluation of bus monitoring tapes; enforces compliance with FTA drug and alcohol rules as they apply to safety sensitive employees; daily evaluation of employees ability to safely perform work duties; employee work-related injury reporting.
Performs field service inspections; notifies transit operator of improper driving practices; passenger complaints and other service problems; documents employee performance and assists Transit Operations Supervisor with performance appraisals Assists with scheduling dispatching of regular, paratransit, charter, special and tripper route transportation; assists with supervision of daily maintenance and safety inspections; withdraws unsafe vehicles from service and schedules repairs; investigates accidents and makes necessary reports; assists with tabulating and monitoring passenger volumes and recommending appropriate scheduling adjustments. Purchases various office and operating supplies and drivers uniforms. Operates point of service machine in qualifying clients for Medicaid transportation service; responds to vehicle shortages; answers requests for route information; investigates and responds to public and passenger complaints; serves as a back-up driver when personnel shortages warrant; provides support functions such as public relations and community activities.
Typical Qualifications Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years; experience in a municipal bus system. Physical: Ability to communicate clearly by radio, telephone and in person; ability to sit for extend periods while working at a computer or while operating a transit bus; ability to work in extreme weather conditions; ability to aid disabled passengers and to lift or drag passengers to safety in case of an emergency; ability to push and maneuver wheelchairs and user (up to 600 pounds combined weight) on and off a wheelchair lift and into tie down position on the bus; ability to bend, stoop and reach while securing wheelchair. Mental: Ability to read and comprehend training materials, periodicals, instruction manuals, and similar materials; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to concentrate and be productive in working with written instructions and turning out miscellaneous reports, memos, evaluations, etc.; Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time while operating a transit bus on various routes; ability to count and accurately record passenger trips; ability to tell time and use to arrive and depart from various locations on routes at scheduled times; ability to handle stressful situations in a clam manner; ability to think quickly and react
Supplemental Information Possession of a Missouri CDL license of appropriate class and endorsements for the bus(es) that could be operated. Moderate proficiency of computer operations and data entry. Must be able to complete various transit work related training courses.
