POSITION

Under close supervision, performs routine clerical work in circulation and processing Library materials and provides services to Library patrons. Part-time assignments do not have guaranteed hours, and employees work a schedule that is mutually beneficial to the employee and the hiring department.

TASKS
  • Assists patrons with questions regarding personal information or change of address, fines, overdue items, lost cards, or application of new cards.
  • Receives, inspects, codes, and prepares materials for an introduction to the Library collection;
  • Collects fines for overdue books and materials;
  • Registers Library applications and assigns Library card numbers;
  • Receives and inputs claim returns;
  • Tracks and maintains damaged materials;
  • Distributes Library/community information orally and physically;
  • Greets patrons and answers phones;
  • Other related duties as necessary.


QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent, AND familiarity with Library Systems and quality customer service techniques, or related experience. Part-time positions are At-Will and can end with or without notice based on the City's needs.

  • KNOWLEDGEABLE OF card catalog systems, file maintenance, and quality customer service techniques and methods; Public Library operations practices and procedures; Library systems/theory/principles related to circulation, cataloging, Dewey Decimal System, inventory;
  • ABILITY TO organize and prioritize various projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, f ollow oral/written directions; Gather, read, analyze, and interpret data; exercise good judgment; post and maintain records accurately; maintain cultural awareness and perform repetitive duties;
  • SKILLED IN organizing and planning to ensure high productivity, utilizing computer databases to research, maintain, and update records and files, working with students, establishing and maintaining productive working relationships;
  • PROFICIENT IN operating department office equipment, including computers and software, fax machines, copiers, scanners, and other specialized equipment, including industry-related software packages.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work performed in an office environment includes standing or walking most of the time, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds and frequently lifting 10-25 pounds; and may be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends .

THE SELECTION PROCESS for this position will consist of an application review to ensure that all applicants meet the minimum requirements for the job classification. A select number of qualified applicants will be invited to an interview with the Hiring Authority. All employment offers are contingent on a criminal background review via fingerprint submission for applicants over 18 years of age and on the provision of evidence of freedom from tuberculosis. Every individual the City employs must complete and sign the US Government Form I-9 and provide the required documentation showing that s/he is eligible to work in the United States.
