Position Responsibilities
- Represent the State of Indiana in all stages of criminal prosecution of Misdemeanors and Level 6 Felonies in Marion County Criminal and Juvenile Courts. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Review evidentiary and forensic reports.
- Identify and interview victims and witnesses.
- Prepare discovery and provide discovery to defense counsel.
- Litigate evidentiary and non-evidentiary motions.
- Review case files, applicable statutes, and case law.
- Determine an appropriate recommendation for case resolution.
- Handle jury trials and court trials.
- Work closely with the Victim Advocates and Latino Services Teams from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
- Communicate with members of local, State, and Federal law enforcement, court personnel, and defense counsel.
- Follow the Marion County Prosecutor’s personnel policies, particularly with regard to confidentiality.
- Attend trainings, as directed.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Doctorate of Jurisprudence.
- Indiana State Bar admission; license in good standing.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local law, procedures, and precedents pertaining to the agency's function and purpose.
- Considerable knowledge of legal resources and legal research procedures.
- Effective communication skills.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local law, procedures, and precedents.
- Ability to research and evaluate legal precedents.
- Ability to analyze complex problems.
- Ability to tactfully deal with a wide variety of administration and officials to resolve disputed problems.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Representing the people of Marion County by having a positive impact on the community.
- $76,000 annual base salary.
