What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Assistant- YSC position at City of Indianapolis and Marion County?
To provide instructional, behavioral, clerical, and administrative support for the educational program operating within the Marion Superior Court Youth Services Center. This position works collaboratively with educational staff, detention staff, administration, and other applicable stakeholders to support student engagement, educational continuity, behavioral stabilization, and daily school operations within a secure detention environment. This position reports to the Director of Staff and Youth Services and works collaboratively with the Educational Coordinator.
Hours for this position are 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. Must be able to work any shift if needed.
Salary is based on applicable experience. Enhancements are available for education and bilingual skills.

- Work collaboratively with educational staff and YSC administration to support the educational, behavioral, and operational needs of students within the facility.
- Work one-on-one or in small groups to help students stay on task and understand assignments.
- Assist in supporting students with behavioral, emotional, or academic needs.
- Assist with de-escalation and behavior management.
- Communicate any concerns or issues regarding education to the Educational Coordinator.
- Serve as the secondary point of contact and communication between Indianapolis Public School staff and other applicable stakeholders, both onsite and offsite, ensuring smooth and effective collaboration.
- Assist in maintaining confidential student records and files in compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
- Assist in the organization and facilitation of standardized testing in compliance with Department of Education requirements.
- Maintain records of student progress and academic achievement.
- Assist with the supervision and support of students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS), including monitoring behavior, facilitating assigned educational work, and promoting a structured learning environment.
- Support educational continuity for students participating in virtual learning, credit recovery, or alternative educational programming.
- Provide operational support to detention staff and facility operations during periods when school is not in session, including assisting with structured programming, resident supervision, and other detention-related duties as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with the Educational Coordinator, teachers, detention leadership, and other stakeholders to support classroom management, student engagement, and educational operations within the facility.
- Other duties as assigned.
