What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Coordinator - YSC position at City of Indianapolis and Marion County?
The Education Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating educational services within the Marion County Youth Services Center. This position ensures that all academic needs of students are met, manages student records, supports instructional staff, and facilitates compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. The Education Coordinator also assists with staff training coordination and serves as the primary liaison between Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), Youth Services Center administration, and other partner agencies.1. Will facilitate the summer school program, including staffing, curriculum development, and resource allocation.
2. Will assist with the coordination of continuing education for staff, including scheduling, tracking, and maintaining records of required and other trainings/certifications.
3. Will prepare and submit educational documentation for external audits.
4. Will coordinate meetings, educational events, and cross-agency collaborations, including serving as liaison for Impact Academy. Position will serve as the primary point of contact and communication between Indianapolis Public School staff, both onsite and off, ensuring smooth and effective collaboration.
5. Will request and manage student records, including enrollment, attendance, grades, transcripts, and special education documents. Fulfills records requests received from other schools for former students.
6. Will communicate student withdrawals and other status changes with the Impact Academy school counselor and previous schools.
7. Will generate and distribute report cards and progress reports, credit certificates, discharge exit forms, and other academic records as requested by students, parents, social workers, probation officers, youth counselors, or other educational institutions.
8. Will work alongside educators to distribute and oversee intake testing for new arrivals.
9. Will provide daily support for virtual learning, including classroom setup, supply distribution, and student account management.
10. Will track, inventory, and assess the condition of school-issued devices, reporting needs to the appropriate parties.
11. Will assist with onboarding substitute teachers and provide timecard approval support.
12. Will keep detailed records of student progress and academic achievements.
13. Will support execution of the Indiana Online High School Equivalency (HSE) Program by identifying eligible candidates and securing required documentation, coordinating enrollment and parental approval, monitoring student activity to ensure compliance.
14. Will provide direct visual supervision and transportation of youth throughout the facility as needed. Support behavioral interventions, including assisting with de-escalation, Refocus programming, and In-School Suspension (ISS).
15. Will maintain the facility library and ensure access to educational resources.
16. Other duties as assigned.Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. 3-5 years’ experience in education administration/coordination will be considered in lieu of a degree. Must be 25 years of age. Strong interpersonal relationship skills and oral and written communication skills essential. Demonstrated computer skills/proficiency required as well as excellent organizational skills. Must be able to interact with diverse groups of individuals. Will be required to be trained in Basic First Aid, CPR and Handle With Care (HWC) Training as well as PREA. Must be able to work any shift if needed.
