Basic Function
Under supervision, responds to fire alarms and emergency medical calls
to protect life and property.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Tests and maintains ambulances, pumping engines, aerial ladder trucks,
hoses, and other equipment; Participates in fire prevention, station
maintenance, and training activities; Performs cleanup and overhaul work
after a fire; Rescues persons at the scene of a fire; Responds to EMS
calls, administers first aid as required, and writes EMS reports;
Responds to major alarms while off duty; Assists with public education
on fire prevention; Performs other duties as assigned
### Qualifications
Ability to meet standards established by superiors; Ability to learn
technical firefighting and EMS techniques; Some mechanical knowledge and
the ability to learn to operate and maintain fire equipment and
ambulances; Ability to understand and follow oral and written
directions; Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships
with fellow employees and the public; Ability to keep simple records and
prepare reports; Ability to respond to and put out fires Education and
Experience Completion Of High School Or GED Required.
### Special Requirements
A current Kansas drivers license; A Class B drivers license; National
Incident Management and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operation
certification; Fire Fighter I and National Paramedic Certification; Must
be available to work nights, overtime, in shifts, and weekends.
### Miscellaneous Information
Physical Requirements Intense Physical Effort Is Required. Individual
must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop,
kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, speak, and listen for extended
periods of time. Working Conditions Work involves continuous exposure to
hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, and unpleasant
work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of
accident or ill health.
