Basic Function
Under supervision, responds to fire alarms and emergency medical calls
to protect life and property.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Tests and maintains ambulances, pumping engines, aerial ladder trucks,
hoses, and other equipment;Participates in fire rescues, fire
prevention, station maintenance, and training activities; Performs
cleanup and overhaul work after a fire; Responds to EMS calls,
administers first aid as required, and writes EMS reports; Responds to
major alarms while off duty; Assists with public education on fire
prevention; Performs other duties as assigned.
### Qualifications
Ability to meet standards established by superiors; Ability to learn
technical firefighting and EMS techniques; Some mechanical knowledge and
the ability to learn to operate and maintain fire equipment and
ambulances; Ability to understand and follow oral and written
directions; Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships
with fellow employees and the public; Ability to keep simple records and
prepare reports; Ability to respond to and put out fires.
### Special Requirements
A current Kansas drivers license; A Class B drivers license; National
Incident Management and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operation
certification; Fire Fighter I and Emergency Medical Technician (Basic)
training; Must be available to work nights, overtime, in shifts, and
weekends.
### Miscellaneous Information
Physical Requirements Intense Physical Effort Is Required. Individual
must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop,
kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, speak, and listen for extended
periods of time. Working Conditions Work involves continuous exposure to
hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, and unpleasant
work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of
accident or ill health. NOTE: Final applicants will submit to a drug
screening prior to awarding of job.
