What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard - Summer position at City of Idaho Falls?
The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for the positions of Summer Lifeguard for the Wes Deist Aquatic Center. Under close to general supervision, performs duties for the City of Idaho Falls Aquatic Center, ensuring the safety of the patrons in the swimming area.
Positions are part-time and/or seasonal in nature.
Applications for these positions will remain on file and available for review for a period of six (6) months.
Monitors activities at the pool to prevent accidents; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning; administers First Aid; cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforces and adheres to pool rules and regulations; follows emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency.; maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas.
Inspects facilities for cleanliness; completes general pool cleaning and maintenance duties; responsible for the availability and safekeeping of emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboard, signs and other equipment); determines chlorine content and pH value of water, using water testing kit, and record readings.
Provides general information on pool operation to patrons
Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform the above and related duties. Previous experience and/or involvement in recreation programs, lifeguarding or swimming preferred.
Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance; knowledge of lifesaving methods and procedures, including first aid and standard resuscitation measures;
Skilled in the application of lifesaving techniques; skilled in swimming; ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies; ability to perform rescue actions, administer first aid and CPR.
Special Qualifications: Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and certified in Administering Emergency Oxygen or the ability to get certifications within a month of hire date. A class for these may be provided at little or no cost if hired before class begins.
Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain. Physical demands may occur in activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, running, jumping, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing required in the daily performance of job duties. Occasional exposure to environmental hazards resulting from working in a recreational environment. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
