About our Department:
The Water Pollution Control Department has a key role in keeping our community’s waterways clean and safe. WPC is responsible for removing pollutants from the wastewater (“sewage”) we generate in our daily lives at home, in schools, and in our businesses and industries. Each year, WPC purifies billions of gallons of wastewater, and returns the clean reclaimed water to our waterways.
WPC Facilities Technician Position Overview:
This is journeyman level facility maintenance work performing maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment. Work involves performing electrical, painting, carpentry, electronics and plumbing repair, refrigeration, heating and air conditioning, masonry and maintenance work on WPC buildings and machinery.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED Certificate issued by the appropriate state agency is required. Graduation from a technical college accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is desired. Experience and proficiency in at least one technical field such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, masonry and general construction at the journeyman level required.
Possession of journeyman level certification in at least one technical field such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, masonry and/or general construction or an equivalent amount of years of experience as a journeyman.
Must have a valid Alabama Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License, Class B or must be obtained within one year of hire or promotion date.
May require possession of a freon certification card depending on job assignments.
