About our Department:
The Finance Department is responsible for monitoring the financial performance for all City departments, managing the procurement of goods and services for the city, and managing the city’s cash flow from taxes, resources, and debt. Finance further provides the citizens of Huntsville, elected officials, city departments and other parties financial services and financial management information.
Payroll Assistant Position at a Glance:
This is advanced administrative support to the Payroll Division of Finance. Work involves a bi-weekly cycle of fiscal work in verifying all current payroll information; following established processes in recording information; and using information as a basis for pay checks. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed by observation, conferences, and reports.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency supplemented by two (2) years of work-related experience in advanced administrative support, payroll administration, accounting, finance, or a closely related field is required; experience in Munis and Kronos timekeeping software is desired; supplemental courses in bookkeeping and accounting desired.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Must obtain a Notary Public within three (3) months of hire or promotion date.
