What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatic Programs Supervisor position at City of Hopewell?
- Plans and implements a wide variety of aquatic events and programs to include swimming lessons (private and group), water aerobics, basic kayaking, kayaking trips, pool parties, and general aquatic programs.
- Oversees division budget for all aquatic related expenditures and revenues; creates purchase orders and processes invoices for aquatic costs; manages city credit card for small purchase of supplies and equipment; maintains receipts and purchasing records for all aquatics related services and goods.
- Supervises the aquatic staff (including work schedules, training, motivating, performance evaluations and recommendations for personnel action such as hiring or promotions) and fills-in for staff when needed.
- Manages relationships with a variety of vendors including chemicals companies, aquatic fitness instructors, swim teams, daycares, schools, and military groups.
- Manages promotions and advertising for aquatics programs.
- Operates city vehicles and other related equipment for aquatic programs.
- Prepares payroll and other aquatic related reports.
- Provides customer service.
- Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of pool equipment and facilities.
- Required to work all city-wide special events and emergency operations
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks management or physical education with coursework in aquatics and at least three years experience in community aquatic programs or related experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Proven experience in training aquatics staff, recruiting staff, and pump room operations.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Valid Driver license.
- First aid, CPR/AED and Lifeguard certifications required.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of pool equipment and supplies, first aid equipment, lifesaving techniques and swimming techniques
Skills:
- Supervisory, teaching, communication, customer service, computer and analytical skills
- Experience with local government agencies preferred.
Abilities:
- Physical ability to perform rescues and assist disabled patrons.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed outdoors but is occasionally exposed to temperamental changes (warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc) or extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
