What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer (Non POST Certified) position at City of Hoover?
- 21 years of age as of May 29, 2026;
- Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit;
- U.S. Citizen;
- Ability to pass a background check;
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write and converse in Spanish
EMPLOYMENT PROCESS
In order to be eligible for employment with the Hoover Police Department a candidate must successfully complete the Physical Agilities/Abilities Test. Go to "Forms" on the left side of the page then scroll to bottom of the page to access the Physical Agility Ability Course.
STEP 1
Police Officer Physical Abilities/Agilities Test
Qualified applicants will be required to attend the Physical Agilities test on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 800 a.m.
STEP 2
Police Officer Written Examination
Applicants who pass the Physical Agilities Test will be scheduled to participate in a written examination the same day, scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026, at 130 p.m.
APOST Certification
Qualified candidates must successfully complete APOST minimum standards, or attain APOST certification, within six months from date of employment with the City of Hoover Police Department. Please do not attach any documents other than cover letters, resumes or military form DD214.
Police Officer candidates who meet the minimum requirements and achieve a passing score on the written examination and physical agilities/abilities test will be further screened through our evaluation process, which considers related work experience, education, certifications and special training. Police Officer candidate finalists will then be evaluated based on personal interviews.
