Traffic Signal Technician

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill two (2) vacancies for the classification of Traffic Signal Technician in the Department of Public Works. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.**

Under general supervision, performs moderately difficult electrical and electronic duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals, solid state signal controllers, field wiring, traffic detection loops and associated equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.

NOTE:  The current vacancies will work a four (4) day work week Monday - Thursday from 9:00 pm - 7:00 am. 

**NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:
Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.

Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range, if selected.

• Graduation from high school or the equivalent
• Three (3) years of full-time journey-level experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical or electronic equipment, which included at least one (1) year of traffic signal installation, repair, and maintenance
• Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered. An Associate Degree in Electronics may substitute for up to two (2) years of general electronic or electrical experience
• Must possess a valid Nevada Class B (or higher level) Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or another state’s equivalent, at the time of application
• Must possess an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I certification as a Traffic Signal Technician at the time of application
• Must have the ability to obtain an IMSA Level II certification as a Traffic Signal Field Technician within the first eighteen (18) months of employment, as a condition of continued employment
• All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by local, state, and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained at the incumbents’ expense

The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above. All candidates who wish to be considered for this position will need to be in Henderson, Nevada, and make themselves available to participate in the testing process at any time on any of the dates listed above.The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best-qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
