Job Purpose:
The purpose of this fast-paced and public-facing position is to perform event related responsibilities such as setting up rooms, working with clients and monitoring events as well as a full range of custodial and building maintenance duties. These activities support the planning and execution of a diverse schedule of events at the Helena Civic Center while enhancing the customer experience and ensuring safe and successful events.

Event Responsibilities
This position sets-up and tears-down tables, chairs, staging and other equipment per client specifications. The Event and Maintenance Technician helps ensure the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of clients and guests by monitoring event activities, ensuring fire and safety codes are met, preventing damage to building and operation of building’s air handling system. They work with the event producer to coordinate needs and to resolve problems in the facility during events. The incumbents are also responsible for locking up and securing the building each evening and after events. The incumbent will operate building heating and cooling systems and set-up and operate sound systems in the building.
Support of Technical Director and Front of House Management
The Event and Maintenance Technician will assist with stocking, cleaning, and organizing concession stands, supervising temp staff, handling cash, selling tickets or merchandise, support the production team’s operation of theatrical sound and light systems, set up hospitality and may run errands for in house events.
Building Maintenance and Custodial
This position is responsible for participating in routine building maintenance duties such as patching and painting walls and woodwork, repairing building and maintenance equipment, monitoring and replacing light fixtures, assisting with in-house construction projects and identifying and reporting maintenance needs to management. The incumbent performs several custodial duties such as cleaning and sanitizing rest room facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets; replenish restroom supplies; sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment; wash windows, mirrors and walls; clean desks and countertops; empty, clean and sanitize waste receptacles and ash trays; and replace lights and adjust shades and blinds. The positions also maintains areas around the building, removing trash and obstacles, sweeping walkways, and removing ice and snow from walkways, stairs and parking lots.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Related to this Position:
Knowledge of:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 40 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; availability for varied shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience and Training):
High School Diploma or equivalent
2 years of experience working with the public
1 year of experience in custodial, maintenance, or construction industry
Other relevant qualifications will be considered in lieu of the above
License or Certificate:
Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record at the time of hire and have the ability to obtain a valid MT driver’s license within six months of hire.
Supervision Received:
Direct supervision and guidance of the Civic Center Manager
Supervision Exercised:
May supervise temporary on-call staff and part time employees
