Job Description
The City of Havre de Grace is seeking experienced candidates to fill a vacant Driver/Laborer Position. This position reports directly to a Crew Leader and carries out a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance, repair and replacement of City property and buildings, roads and sidewalks, water and sewer lines, and meters.
Minimum qualifications are as follows:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- A valid driver’s license (Must obtain a Class B CDL within the first 12 months of employment)
In addition, the applicant must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to pass pre-employment and annual physical examinations. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, crouch, stoop, lift objects up to 50 pounds, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1. Installs, removes, repairs and maintains water and sewer lines, installs water meters, replaces defective meters, cleans sewer lines, flushes hydrants
- 2. Operates trucks of varying sizes (dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck) in a safe and efficient manner
- 3. Safely and efficiently operates various power and hand tools
- 4. Performs maintenance and replacement of storm drain inlets and pipe when needed
- 5. Performs trash run emptying City-Owned trash receptacles when on-call
- 6. Performs snow removal
- 7. Reads water meter indicator electronically as required
- 8. Records readings, calculate consumption and notes any unusual changes in consumption or malfunctions such as leaks or damaged meters
- 9. Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, unauthorized connection or use; reports findings to supervisor
- 10. Responds to service calls in a timely manner
- 11. Provides exceptional customer service especially to City residents
- 12. Installs, removes, repairs and maintains sidewalks, curbs, gutters, roads, and storm drains
- 13. Performs maintenance and replacement of storm drain inlets and pipe
- 14. Trims trees
- 15. Performs other duties as assigned
