Description of Work
Under the direct supervision of the Gas Crew Chief, performs a variety of skilled and unskilled work in maintenance, construction and repair of gas department mains, structures, and customer service lines. Operates digging equipment, backhoes, directional drilling equipment, trenchers, and tampers.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Assist with the layout, assembly, installation, maintenance, repair and removal of underground/above ground natural gas distribution mains, services, equipment, and meter activity.
- Digs and fills holes and ditches for gas department and other departments as assigned at construction sites with department equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
- Assists at construction sites excavating and backfilling trenches and ditches by hand. Grade or level trench bases using hand tools and operate tamping machines. Restore landscaping.
- Assists in the operation of Directional Drilling and locating equipment for boring under streets, sidewalks, yards, and other obstructions.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading. Cleans, paints, coats and wraps gas pipe. Tap mains and does gas piping under supervision.
- Adjusts and makes minor repairs on department equipment and keeps equipment clean and in good working order.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation of high school plus two years’ experience with natural gas company preferably with one year experience as a pipefitter or pipefitter apprentice. And/or other applicable underground construction experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess valid driver's license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire.

40 hours per week.
Monday - Friday, day hours, subject to recall
Residency Requirement
30 minutes from duty station, per Google Maps, within six months of hire.
