The City of Harrison is seeking a dependable and motivated Water Technician to join our Water/Wastewater Department. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate meter readings, reliable water service, and safe water operations for residents and businesses across Harrison, Ohio.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
In this role, you will assist with both skilled and semi-skilled operational work, including:
- Operating and maintaining water treatment equipment
- Reading and recording residential and commercial water meter data using a hand-held computer
- Performing water tap inspections
- Checking meters for damage and completing small repairs when possible
- Changing out meters
- Testing meters for accuracy and making adjustments as needed
- Collecting and recording water plant data
- Monitoring chemicals at the water plant
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Respond to citizen questions, concerns, and water service issues
- Perform shut-offs for non-payment or scheduled repairs
- Assist in water treatment facility operations
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Support emergency operations, including temporary duties outside normal job scope when needed
EQUIPMENT & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Hand-held meter reading computer

- Orion meter reading systems
- Laboratory equipment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Ability to build positive working relationships with city staff, supervisors, and the public
- Ability to read street maps and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of meter operations, maintenance, and minor repairs
- Basic understanding of water sample collection and analysis
- Ability to work under direct supervision
TRAINING AND REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in wastewater or utility operations preferred, but not required
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required skills will be considered
Licenses & Certifications:
- Must possess, or be able to promptly obtain, a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Must possess (or be able to obtain) a laboratory test certificate
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Ability to respond to call-outs outside normal business hours
- Must be willing to obtain Operator Class I certification within 6 months or within a reasonable time after hire
