Join our team as a Pool Lifeguard and help ensure the safety and enjoyment of pool patrons at City of Hampton facilities. This position plays a vital role in public safety by monitoring swimming areas, enforcing safety regulations, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise swimming areas to prevent accidents and enforce rules
Rescue swimmers in distress and administer first aid when needed
Test pool chemistry and complete routine reports
Keep pool facilities clean and assist with basic maintenance
Respond to patron concerns professionally and promptly
Minimum Requirements
- No prior experience is required.
- Must possess a current Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization, i.e. American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA of USA, or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment preferred.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).
Additional Requirements
- Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Must possess good eyesight and hearing.
- Requires shift work to include weekends and holidays.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
