This position plays a vital role in public safety by monitoring swimming areas, enforcing safety regulations, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise swimming areas to prevent accidents and enforce rules
- Rescue swimmers in distress and administer first aid when needed
- Test pool chemistry and complete routine reports
- Keep pool facilities clean and assist with basic maintenance
- Respond to patron concerns professionally and promptly
Minimum Requirements
- No prior experience is required.
- Must possess a current Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization, i.e., American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA of USA, or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment is preferred.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).
- Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Must possess good eyesight and hearing.
- Requires shift work to include weekends and holidays.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
