Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Service Laborer, under the immediate supervision of a Department Manager or Supervisor is responsible for performing general manual labor and maintenance work at City owned parks and facilities. The successful candidate will work to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks using hand tools and various types of motorized equipment, will work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and meets the requirements outlined below.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must demonstrate reliable and predictable attendance.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
- The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana.
The Service Laborer shall have the following duties under their direct supervisor:
- Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
- Supports the service department by successfully executing daily job assignments.
- Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to assist with the efficient delivery of City services (e.g., litter cleanup, mowing, painting, patching roadways, assists with erecting street signs, leaf collection, snow removal, etc.); assists with maintenance and operation of City-owned equipment and vehicles; inspects equipment and tools prior to operation to ensure safety; maintains City tools and equipment as required; assists with rough and finished carpentry work; trimming and/or cutting trees and brush, cleans streets, curbs, and catch basins; assists with some minor electrical work as assigned; cleans City facilities.
- Town Center area maintenance (e.g., litter cleanup, table, bench and umbrella repair, event preparation).
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium to heavy work.
