The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Uniform Patrol Officer in the Police Department.
Responsibilities: Responds to various types of calls including house checks, fire calls, alarms, armed robberies, prisoner transports, weapon accidents, traffic control, abandoned vehicles, vehicle violators, school crossings, hazardous materials checks, nuisance calls, deceit incidents, drunks, malicious damage, missing persons, telephone incidents, sexual offenses, vice/intoxicant violations, burglaries, assaults, death, etc.; Patrols assigned areas which involves driving patrol vehicle, investigating suspicious situations, serving traffic tickets, assisting the general public, conducting bank escorts, surveying areas for crimes, administering first aid, and responding to any calls; Handles community policing which involves setting up meetings with businesses, performing security checks, working on crime prevention, and directing the public to organizations such as Department of Social Services, DYS, Meals on Wheels, counseling, etc.; Conducts Problem oriented policing projects; Works as jailor as necessary which involves monitoring jail activities, monitoring visitors, providing jailers with supplies and tools, etc.; Appears in City court, general sessions, and family court as needed.
Job requirements: High School diploma or GED and at least 21 years of age. Must be able to successfully complete (or be currently certified by) the S. C. Criminal Justice Academy; Must be able to work 12-hour shifts; Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.
Hiring Process: Initial application, written and physical abilities testing, interview board, initial background investigation, review of personal history questionnaire, polygraph, meeting with the Chief of Police, conditional offer of employment by Human Resources, psychological and medical evaluation, final offer of employment. Selection process may take eight (8) to twelve (12) weeks
Hours: Rotating 12 hour shifts
Salary: Uncertified officer salary $49,248; Certified officer salary $51,710
